It is with an extremely heavy heart that we advise our beautiful Xena, exceptional mother to many champion and ribbon-winning offspring, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010, following the delivery of a breech, stillborn cria. It was a quick and sudden passing, in the field that she was born in 10 years ago, surrounded by her pasture 'mates' and daughter from last year by her side.
Rest peacefully, dear Xena! The pasture is not the same without your presence and we miss you terribly!

Welcome to Misty Hills Ranch
We are a family owned and operated 20-acre alpaca breeding facility located just 15 minutes NW of the city of Calgary and 1-1/2 hours East of the world-famous Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The focus of our breeding program is simple - we believe the future of the alpaca industry lies in producing ultra fine fleeces to compete on the world market with such luxury fibers as cashmere. To this end our breeding program has enjoyed considerable success and has produced several quality, award-winning alpacas.
We are dedicated to the future of the alpaca industry and in doing our small part to maintain its history as one of the finest luxury fibers in the world!
In addition to exquisite fiber characteristics, our alpacas are bred for soundness and desirable temperaments. Being a small ranch, we have the opportunity to interact with all of our alpacas on a daily basis. Our alpacas (with the exception of one gelding) are registered with the Canadian (CLRC) and U.S. (ARI) registries. We are also proud members of Alpaca Canada, the Canadian Llama & Alpaca Assocation (CLAA), the Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association (AOBA) and the Alpaca Livestock Producers and Cooperators Association (A.L.P.A.C.A.). If you are thinking about entering the alpaca industry for the first time, or if you are looking to upgrade or add different genetics to your existing herd, we invite you to look through our website or visit our ranch in person.
